Visual Arts

Buongiorno! The students experienced their first two sessions yesterday (Monday); 12pm and 5pm. The 12pm 1 hour session is dedicated to warming up via 1-10 minute gesture drawing. The students were challenged to use one fluid line exploring line weight and recording as much detail of the model as possible. The 5pm 3 hour session began with all the students making preliminary sketches for one of their two projects. One project is a self-portrait and the other is a piece that reflects the student’s experience in Spoleto. Both assignments have to be worked from direct observation.

Although we had a bit of a drawback with the students who were working outside and got soaked in a torrential downpour, after just one day of class, progress was evident in the technique of the majority of the students.

Here is a view of Spoleto before the torrential downpour. The convent is the large building on the right in front. The fireworks were shot off the previous night in the field to the left.
